RIVER CITY ROVERS MEET THE CHICAGO FIRE
Louisville, KY—May 28, 2011, The River City Rovers, Louisville’s men’s outdoor soccer team, met the Chicago Fire PDL for the first time tonight in a tight match that ended in a 1-0 win for Chicago in the 92nd minute of the game. Fire’s Chris Estridge scored off a counter attack from a corner kick.
The two teams maintained an even pace throughout the night’s game, often taxing the nerves of the Chicago fans. “The Rovers defense was just as stable as their last 2 games against Michigan & Akron,” stated Rovers Coach Dale Helfrich. Both Michigan & Akron games resulted in a scoreless tie of 0-0. “We have a young team and we’re a young franchise—but our players are getting a chance to make their mark in the Great Lakes Conference…and they’re going for it.” The Fire completed 13 shots on goal with 3 saves; the Rovers finished with 8 shots on goal and 5 saves.
The Rovers will continue their away game schedule this Monday, May 30th against the Indiana Invaders in Indianapolis The full schedule of home and away games can be found at www.roverssoccer.com.
