5/21/11--Rovers vs. Bucks ends in a draw.
RIVER CITY ROVERS BATTLE MICHIGAN BUCKS, 0-0 FINAL SCORE
Louisville, KY—May 21, 2011 7 p.m., In a 50-minute rain-delayed game that ended in a 0-0 tie, Louisville’s River City Rovers, Men’s Outdoor Soccer Team, showcased their talented defense with a shutout to an established PDL team, the Michigan Bucks.
Hoping to score a coveted spot on the U.S. Open Cup this June, The Bucks were looking for a victory against the untried Rovers at Saturday’s game at Christian Academy’s Centurion Soccer Field. Instead, the Bucks were met with the Rovers’ unshakeable determination to hold the opposition back.
While the Bucks fired 18 shots to goal, only 5 were in the goal zone and stopped by Rovers’ keeper, Matt Soyka. The Rovers had a total of 9 shots to goal with 3 saves by the Bucks goalie, Mitch Hildebrandt.
Frustration mounted in the second half as the Bucks coach, Dan Duggans and player Luke Holmes were ejected from the game. After repeated warnings in the first and second half, Holmes was ejected for “violent conduct” on the field.
The Rovers will continue their game schedule in Chicago this Saturday, May 28th and against the Indiana Invaders May 30th in Indianapolis The full schedule of home and away games can be found at www.roverssoccer.com.
