6/18/11--Rovers Challenge Akron in Ohio.

RIVER CITY ROVERS VS. AKRON SUMMIT ASSAULT

Akron, OH.  The River City Rovers traveled to Akron today to play the PDL Akron Summit Assault soccer team.  The Rovers started with a 3-5-2 versus Akron’s 4-4-2.  

The first half witnessed a tug of war with both team vying for possession.  15 minutes into the game, the Rovers shifted play due to Akron’s pressure with offensive opportunities. As the half progressed the Rovers rallied back to get several opportunities in the last 20 minutes of the first half. Score at half was 0-0.

Akron began the second half with a renewed surge and scored 5 minutes in on a ball across the middle. 10 minutes later--Akron was able to score to increase their lead 2-0. The Rovers increased their pace with great shots by Ryan Smith and Sam Brooks but to no avail. Pressure increased, and in stoppage time, the Rovers were caught pressing. Final score--Akron 3, Rovers 0.

The Rovers have started the season without a loss at home, but the road has been difficult with all 5 of their losses occurring during away games.  Make sure to come out and watch the Rovers as they battle the Toronto Lynx next Friday, June 24th, at 7pm at Centurion Soccer Field at Christian Academy, 700 S.
