6/24/11--Louisville's Rovers vs. Toronto, Canada
RIVER CITY ROVERS BEND TO TORONTO’S TACTICS
Louisville, KY—The River City Rovers men’s outdoor soccer team upheld a generous game of soccer tonight in front of a hometown crowd of 336. “The Rovers really play a clean game,” commented one spectator/local coach attending the match. “The Toronto Lynx just play with different tactics—they’re good, but there’s a lot of tackling tactics involved with their style of play.”
The night began with an evenly matched defense between Toronto and Louisville. In the 25th minute, Toronto scored their 1st goal with a clean shot in the Rovers’ net. The Rovers retaliated with 3 more strategic attacks before the end of the first half.
The second half was all action. 55 minutes saw excessive rough play and high footwork by Toronto while the Rovers repeatedly penetrated the Lynx defense line in front of their goal. Toronto’s tactics backfired in the 71st minute when 2 players, #3 James and #6 McNamara, were given yellow cards for excessive roughness within two separate plays within the minute. A flurry of activity at the 78th minute allowed Rovers’ Dustin Downey #8 to make a goal, but the attempt was over-shot. At 88 minutes, Rovers’ Jarrett Robbins received his second yellow card resulting in a penalty kick and subsequent 2nd goal for Toronto. Final score for the game was 2-0, Toronto.
The Rovers’ next home game is Friday, July 1st at 7pm against the Indiana Invaders at Centurion Soccer Field (Christian Academy at 700 S. English Station Road, Louisville.) A full schedule of home and away games can be found at www.roverssoccer.com.
