July 16th, 2011--Rovers beat Kings 5-4. Incredible...4 goals scored by Rovers' #18 Edward!!!

RIVER CITY ROVERS SNATCH THE WIN FROM CINCINNATI KINGS

Louisville, KY—Saturday, July 16th was a great night of soccer--one that won’t easily be forgotten or matched in most local soccer history. The River City Rovers won their last home game 5-4 against the Cincinnati Kings tonight with one player, #18-D Albert Edward, scoring 4 of the 5 winning goals.

The game began with an exciting start by the Rovers. At the 7th minute mark, #14 Ace Gonya, scored the first goal with an assist by team captain, #4 Ryan Smith. Cincinnati then picked up the pace and logged goals at the 8th and 19th minute of the first half. In the 37th minute of play, Albert Edward began his onslaught of scoring with an assist by #6 Sam Brooks.

2 minutes into the second half, Edward scored goal #2; the third and fourth were scored at the 55th and 58th minute marks.  The Rovers delivered a total of 20 shots on goal for the night, the Kings 11. Other highlights were Rovers GK making a split-second deflection off a Kings free kick in the 69th minute; and 17-yr. old player, Peter May, made his Rover debut in the second half.

Post game comments by Rovers Head Coach, Muhamed Fazlagic--“We had more of the game in the first half, but we didn’t convert our opportunities, and we committed a few defensive mistakes. After the second half, we addressed weaknesses in the Kings defensive, and Albert Edward and the team beautifully executed the plays!”

The Rovers have 2 more away games, Wed. July 20th against Indiana and Saturday, July 23rd against Cincinnati.    GO ROVERS!!!
