The Derby City Rovers are pleased to announce Moustapha Fofana will return for the 2017 PDL season. The 25-year was a mainstay for Rovers in 2016, logging 810 minutes, recording 1 goal and 2 assists, on his way to being named to the All-Central Conference Team. He returns to the Rovers having just completed his sophomore season at Lindsey Wilson College, continuing the club’s strong ties with the 9-time NAIA National Champions. Prior to enrolling at Lindsey Fofana was groomed at the prestigious Diambars FC Academy.
Rovers Assistant Coach Robbe Tarver, who played alongside Fofana last season, is excited to have the defender back with this year’s team. "Moustapha is such a dominant defender in the 1v1 situations, it just brings confidence to the team knowing he’s going to shut down his side of the field. When you have that kind of dependability it really allows everyone else to focus on their own responsibility—we know our center backs aren’t going to get dragged out wide having to support as much and our wingers won’t be pinned back having to double down on the ball. Player’s with his individual defensive quality allow us to stay balanced which is so critical when we transition to attack with the kind of possession oriented soccer we like to play.”
