The Derby City Rovers have announced the signing of Kenny Doublette for the 2017 PDL season. The 6-foot-2 striker from Haiti spent the 2016 season under contract with Louisville City FC having impressed as a pre-season trialist, but failed to nail down spot in the rotation for the USL Eastern Conference runner-up side. He comes to the Rovers hungry to kick-start his professional career through the proven pathway provided by the PDL.
"I'm just excited to have this opportunity to develop my game and the be a part of a quality team. Of course there's personal motivation to get to the next level, but I'm also driven to help the team succeed and improve on the foundation they've established."
The Rovers will be hoping Doublette can find the form he displayed during his collegiate career where he netted an impressive 23 goals and 13 assists, including 15 goals in his final 20 games for Southern New Hampshire who he helped to the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championship.
"While Kenny's a proven goal-scorer, we think he has the ability to be a complete striker," said Rovers Assistant Coach Lwandiso Gonya. "He can hold the ball up for the team as a back to goal target man, he can stretch the field by attacking the space behind the defense, and he can create for teammates with the dribble and the pass. We feel his versatility will suit our style of play and complement the other talented players we have in this year's team."
Gonya and the rest of the coaching staff will look to blend Doublette's skill set into the team in fairly short order, as the Derby City Rovers prepare for their US Open Cup clash against Tartan Devils Oak Avalon on Wednesday, May 10th, followed by their PDL opener on Saturday, May 13th. Both matches will kick-off at 7:30pm at Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville. Tickets are available for purchase at roverssoccer.com
